John G. Thines
Funeral Mass for John G. Thines, 79, Ottoville, was said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis Huffman officiated, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemtery, Ottoville.
Mr. Thines was born February 24, 1892, in Landeck to John and Mary (Rieger) Thines. He married
Josephine Schimmieller September 12, 1916, and she survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Armella) Martz, Ottoville; Mrs. Cyril (Delores) Hempfling and
Mrs. Joseph (Valeta) Stallkamp both of Delphos; and Mrs. Robert (Janet) Fisher, Lima; a son Dennis, of
Delphos; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The owner of The Dew Drop Inn, Ottoville, Mr. Thines was a member of the immaculate Conception Church
and its Holy Name Society.

Henry J. Trenkamp
Henry Trenkamp, 61, route 2, Ft. Jennings, died at 12:10 p.m. Friday in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, following a
three-day illness.
He was born July 22, 1910, in Ottoville, to August and Anna (Ruen) Trenkamp. He married Marcella Vogt on
August 29, 1940, and she died in 1956.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Margaret Ann) Warnecke, Ft. Jennings; two sons Robert J. of
Columbus Grove; and Richard H. of Delphos; six grandchildren; five sisters, Irene Dugan, Lima; Sally Fisher,
Huntingwoods, Mich.; Edna Droesch, Dayton; Frances Landwehr, Kalida; and Sister Mary Alma, Celina; and
two brothers, James, Lima; and August, Ft. Jennings.
A farmer and an employee of Kray Packing Co., Delphos, he was a former member of the board of directors
of the Ottoville Mutual Telephone Company and Delphos VFW Dad’s Club.
Mr. Trenkamp was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where funeral mass was offered at 11 a.m.
Monday. The Rev Louis Huffman officiated, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Magdelena Pohl
Funeral mass was offered at 11:30 a.m. Monday for Magdelena Pohl, 82, Delphos, who died Friday
afternoon in her home.
She was born September 5, 1889, in Ottoville to John and Mary (Altenburger) Hohlbein. She was married
June 4, 1913, in Ottoville to Henry H. Pohl. He died March 16, 1969.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. B. H. Vondran, Mrs. Norman Powell and Mrs. Lucille Clark, all of
Delphos; and Mrs. Eldon Barnes, Jr., St. Petersburg, Florida; three sons, Jon, of St. Mary’s; Edward, of
Anchorage, Alaska; and Elmer, of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Frank and Andrew Hohlbein of Ft.
Jennings; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Schimmoeller, of Delphos; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and its Alter-Rosary Society. Services were held in the
church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Crash Kills Girl, 18: Sister Hurt
Driver Swerves, Car Rolls Over
A single car accident on U.S. 224 northwest of Kalida early Sunday resulted in the death of an 18-year old
Ottoville girl and injury to her sister.
Dead on arrival at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, was Sylvia Niemeyer. Her 19-year old sister Janice, was
admitted to the hospital for treatment of multiple injuries. She was listed in fair condition today.
Miss Niemeyer’s death was one of at least 14 traffic deaths, which occurred in Ohio during the Easter
weekend.
Putnam County Sheriff James Ruhe said the accident occurred 12:55 a.m. Sunday, about one and a-half
miles southwest of here.
The car driven by Janice Niemeyer, was traveling southwest and the driver apparently thought she was
going to strike a bridge abutment, the Sheriff said. She swerved the car off the left side of the road and lost
control.
The vehicle then skidded sideways across the pavement into a ditch on the north side, struck a culvert and
rolled over, the Sheriff said.
Sylvia Niemeyer was born July 4, 1953 in Van Wert, a daughter of Alphonse and Rose Mary Giesken
Niemeyer, who survive.
Also surviving are seven sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Norma) Turk of Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Bernard (Mary Jane)
Averesch of Kalida; Mrs. Eugene (Ruth) Hoorman of Cloverdale; and Janice, Marcia, Mary Jo and Rosalie, all
at home; seven brothers, Jerome of Columbus Grove; Ronald of Route 2, Ft. Jennings; Paul of Kalida;
Charles, Timothy, Daniel and Alan, all at home.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, and the Alter-Rosary Society
of the church.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church, Rev. Louis Huffman officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call after 7 tonight at Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp Funeral Home, Ottoville, where the rosary will be
recited at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Theodore Beining
Theodore J. Beining, Ottoville, 78, was dead on arrival at a Delphos physician’s office at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral Mass was offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Rev.
Louis Huffman. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
Mr. Beining was born May 3, 1893, near Ottoville, the son of Henry B. and Mary A. Dulmer Beining. On
May14, 1919, he married Bernadine Hellman who survives.
Also surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Mildred) Beckman, Mrs. Richard (Angela) Kimmet, Mrs.
Herbert (Mary) Hempfling and Mrs. Robert (Alice) Arnzen, all of Delphos; Mrs. Alvin (Gertrude) Schmitz and
Mrs. Joseph K. (Irene) Schroeder, both of Ottawa; two sons, Rudy, of Ottawa; and Raymond of Delphos; a
sister, Mrs. Rosa Koester of Ottoville; 45 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Beining was retired farmer, a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Holy
Name Society of the parish.

George B. King
Funeral services for George B. King, 70, of Ottoville, were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church, Ft. Jennings. The Rev. Louis Huffman officiated with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.
Mr. King died unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Thursday last week at his residence in Ottoville. He was born April 23,
1902, in Delphos to Frank and Catherine Baer King. He married Henrietta Ruen on May 6, 1947, in Delphos,
and she survives.
Also surviving are a sister, Miss Margaret King of Ottoville and a niece and several nephews. Three
brothers, Lawrence, Leonard and John preceded him in death.
A member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, he was also an associate member of
the V.F.W. of Ottoville. He was a retired owner and operator of King’s Meat Market, Ottoville.

Gregory Devitt
Gregory Allen Devitt, 23 days old, Ottoville, died at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Born
May 24, he was the son of Jack and Helen Long Devitt who survive.
Also surviving are one brother, Brent, and two sisters, Anette and Teresa, who live at home; maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Long, Neopolis; and paternal grandfather, Ollie Devitt, Ottoville.
Services were held Monday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Ft. Jennings with Rev. Herman
Fortman officiating. Burial will be made in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville.

Rudolph Ricker
Rudolph A. Ricker, 57, route 1, Cloverdale, was dead on arrival at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima at 4:00 p.m.
Thursday. Allen County Coroner Dr. William Noble ruled the death due to a heart attack.
Born March 6, 1915, in Wetzel, Van Wert County, to Louis and Emma Brinkman Ricker, he was married on
February 12, 1949, to Elizabeth Bullinger, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Carl, of route 2, Ft. Jennings; and Eugene B., at home; a grandchild; a brother
John, route 1, Cloverdale; and two sisters, Mrs. Cletus (Lucille) Horstman, Ottoville; and Mrs. Leo (Agnes)
Horstman, route 1, Cloverdale.
Mr. Ricker was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a farmer and a Parker’s Seed Corn
Dealer. He was also employee by St. Mary’s Foods, Delphos.
Funeral Mass was offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church, with Rev. Louis Huffman celebrating. Burial
was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Andrew Altenburger
Andrew (Andy) Altenburger, 80, Ottoville, died at 11 p.m. Saturday in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, following a
five-day illness.
Born July 6, 1892 in Ottoville to Joseph and Mille Miller Altenburger. He married Matilda Schmitt November
26, 1914, and she survives.
Also surviving are six sons, Harold, Delphos; Hubert S., Jerome F., Wilbur E., Paul J., and Donald F., all of
Ottoville; three daughters, Mrs. Basil (Louise) Alt, Ottoville; Mrs. Richard (Dolores) Friemoth, Ft. Jennings; and
Mrs. William (Irene) Stechschulte, Kalida; 37 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a retired farmer and school bus driver,
and retired owner operator of the Altenburger Trucking Co.
Mass was offered Tuesday in the church by Rev. Louis Huffman, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

William H. Brandehoff
William H. Brandehoff, 80, of 327 S. Pierce died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at his
home.
Born May 20, 1892, in Ottoville, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Looser Brandehoff. He was married
on Oct. 24 1916, to Josephine Plescher and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Velma) Martin and Mrs. Mary Haas, both of Dayton, and
Mrs. Donald (Alice) Kuhn of Morristown, N.J.; one son, Irvin Wilmington; nine grand children; and one great-
grandchild; two brothers, John of Fort Wayne and Laverne of Wapakoneta, and one sister, Mrs. Sabina Weber
of Chesaning, Mich.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the St. Joseph Society of the church, K of C, Sacred
Heart League and a past member of the Delphos and Ottoville choir. He was a retired employee of Delphos
Bending Co.
Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Graveside services for infant Kevin J. Grote son of John and Marie Eickholt Grote of Ottoville, were at 2 p.

The child died at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, where he was born 2 hours earlier.
Surviving with the parents are a brother, Tony, at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Eickholt of Ottoville; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Grote of Ft. Jennings; paternal great-
grandmother, Mrs. Anna Siefker, of Kalida; maternal great-grandfather, Leo Eickholt and Joe T. Horstman,
both of Ottoville.

Arnold Liebrecht
Arnold M. Liebrecht, 75, of Ottoville, died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima.
He was born at Ottoville on April 22, 1897, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Gergen) Liebrecht. He was
married to Mary Miller on June 7, 1927.
Surviving with his widow are a son, Arnold B., of Delphos; three grandchildren; three brothers, Frank of
Dayton; Lawrence of Delphos; William of Toledo; and four sisters, Mrs. Katherine Verhoff, of Ottawa; Mrs.
Elizabeth Kostner, of Dayton; Mrs. Veronica Brickner, of Kalida; and Mrs. Matilda Krienbrink, of Kendallville, Ind.
A former employee of the Lima Lumber Company, Mr. Liebrecht was a member of the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of the parish, and the Ottoville Senior Citizens Club.
Services were held in the church at 10:30 thus morning, Thursday. The Rev. Louis Huffman officiated.
Interment was made in the parish cemetery.

Ronald E. Daeger
Ronald E. Daeger, 21, of route 1, Grover Hill, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon of last week in St. Rita’
s Hospital.
He was born at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, on July 4, 1951 the son of Louis J. and Betty A. (Hoersten) Daeger,
who survive at route 1, Grover Hill. He also leaves a sister, Deborah, and two brothers, David and Douglas, all
at home; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Viola Daeger, of Paulding, and maternal grandfather, Louis Hoersten.
The young man was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, where services
were held at 10:30 Monday morning. The burial was made in the church cemetery.

Leo H. Kemper
Leo H. Kemper, 49, of 703 East Jackson Street, Delphos, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Rita’s
Hospital, Lima, ay 9:42 p.m. Saturday following an apparent heart attack.
A son of Herman and Theresa Ricker Kemper, he was born at Ottoville on May 27, 1923. He was married at
Landeck to Angela M. Kaverman on November 15, 1947.
Surviving are his wife; his mother, who resides at Ft. Jennings; three sons, Gerald and Stephen, of
Delphos; and Michael, of Lowry AFB, Colo.; one grandchild; six brothers, Henry Arnold, Isadore, Joseph, and
John, all of the Ottoville community; and Lawrence, of Delphos; six sisters, Mrs. Alex (Frances) Muzechuck and
Mrs. Frank (Amelia) Burdg, both of Dayton; Mrs. Carl (Bertha) Gasser, Mrs. Lucille Wittler, Mrs. Donald
(Agnes) Ostendorf, all of Ft. Jennings, and Mrs. James(Theresia) Kramer, of Ottoville. A brother, Alphonse
preceded him in death.
Mr. Kemper was veteran of world War II, and was serving as Commander of Ottoville Post 3740 Veterans of
Foreign Wars; he was also past president of the Allied Industrial Workers Local486 at Fruehauf corporation,
Delphos, where he was employed, and a member of the Delphos Coon Sportsman Club. He was also a
member of St. john’s Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart League and the Holy Name Society of the parish.
Services were held in the church at 10:30 Wednesday forenoon. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

William W. Horstman
William W. (Pete) Horstman, 75, resident of Ottoville, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday in St. Rita’s Hospital
following and extended illness.
He was born at Landeck on May 9, 1897, a son of William and Elizabeth (Berheide) Horstman. He was
married to Flora Martin at Ft. Jennings on November 2, 1920.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Stallkamp, of Delphos; a son, William J., of Ottoville; five
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Horstman, of Ft. Jennings; and Ben Horstman,
of Ottawa.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the Parish.
A mechanic, Mr. Horstman was employed the international Harvester at Ottoville and Van Wert.
Services will be hold in the Ottoville parish church at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Louis Huffman will
officiate. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kolkmeyer-Helmkamp Funeral Home in Ottoville after 7 p.m. Thursday. The rosary
will be recited at the home at 8:30 Friday evening.

Gertrude M. Siler
Gertrude M. Siler, 82, native of Ottoville, died at 4:20 Sunday morning in the St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima,
following an extended illness. She had resided in Lima in recent years.
Born at Ottoville on October 4, 1890, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Otte. She was the widow of
the late Ralph Siler.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Les (Fern) LaFranco, of San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Melvin (Virginia)
Altenburger, Delphos; Mrs. Linus (Mary Katherine) Zink, Mrs. John (Celesti) Jones, both of Lima; and Phyllis, of
Cincinnati; a son, Thomas R., of Tehran, Iran; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Siler was a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, Lima, where funeral services were held at 10:30
Friday morning. The Rev. Gilbert Geiger officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’ Cemetery at Ottoville.

Josephine Thines
Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine M. Thines, 75, of Ottoville, were at noon Wednesday in the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis Huffman officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Mrs.
Thines died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima.
She was born June 24, 1897, in Ottoville to William and Mary L. Langhals Schimmoeller. On September 12,
1916 she married John G. Thines and he died January 22, 1972.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Armella) Martz, Ottoville; Mrs. Cyril (Delores) Hempfling, Mrs. Joseph
(Valeta) Stalkamp, both of Delphos; Mrs. Robert (Janet) Fisher, Lima; a son, Dennis, Delphos; 15
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence and Alphonse, both of Delphos; and Melitus,
Ottoville.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Alter-Rosary Society of the
church.
