Ottoville Resident Died In Indiana
Funeral services were held Friday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception church at
Ottoville for Mrs. Conrad Krebs, who passed away in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harley Philips, in
Wabash, Indiana.
Mrs. Krebs had been making her home with her daughter sin the death of her husband in April 1942.
Prior to that time she had resided in the vicinity of Ottoville. At the time of her death she was eighty years of
age.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Philips and Mrs. Elizabeth Horstman, of Eabash, Ind.; Edna
Everhart, Tiffin; and Sister Mary Alexia C.PP.S.; two sons, George, of Wabash; and Joseph, of Toledo; and two
brothers, George Kiefer, Toledo; and John Kiefer, Chesaning, Mich.

Rites Friday At Ottoville
John Siefker Died At Home Of Son
John H. Siefker died unexpectedly at the home of a son, John Siefker, one and one-half miles north of
Ottoville, Monday afternoon at four o’clock. He had been ailing for a number of years but a cerebral
hemorrhage was the immediate cause of his demise.
Mrs. Siefker preceded her husband in death eleven years ago, and for the last eight years he had been
making his home with the son. Prior to that time he had resided on a farm east of Delphos. He was seventy-six
years of age.
Mr. Siefker is survived by the following children, Mrs. Louis Seffernick, Flint, Mich.; Isadore, of east of
Delphos; Mrs. Henry Hoffman and Mrs. Regina Weichart, Delphos; Mrs. Henry Landwehr, Ottoville; thirty-four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Three daughters and a son preceded Mr. Siefker in death.
Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Friday morning at
nine o’clock and burial was made in St. John’s cemetery at Delphos.

Minnie Miller
Mrs. Philomena A. Miller, 71, died here Saturday night at her home, 328 S. Jefferson-st.
Mrs. Miller was born at Ottoville and had lived in Delphos many years, she was widely known in the
community. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She leaves a son, William, and a daughter,
Bernadine, both at home.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. slow time at St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Ottoville
Cemetery.
The body will be at the funeral chapel.

Rites Friday At Ottoville
John Krietemeyer Died Early Tuesday
John H. Krietemeyer, resident of north of Ottoville, died at his home Tuesday morning at one o’clock. He
had been seriously ill since last Friday.
Mr. Krietemeyer was born in Germany on September 26, 1859. He came to the United States when a
young man and has made his home in the vicinity of Ottoville for the past fifty years. He was eighty-three years
of age.
He was married to Anna Brinkman at Ottoville and to this union two sons and a daughter were born. They
are David, of Ottoville; Mrs. Andrew Wurst, of near Ottoville; and Gerhard, who died in 1934. Mrs. Krietemeyer
died on April 10, 1898.
On November 7, 1899, Mr. Krietemeyer was married to Catherine Wallen at Ft. Jennings. She survives
with the following children; Frank, of Ottoville; Loretta and John, at home; Mrs. Beno Miller and Mrs. Alex Ruhe,
Continental; and Sister Mary Petronia, C.PP.S., San Luis, Calif. Two children by this marriage preceded their
father in death.
Mr. Krietemeyer was a member of the Immaculate Conception parish, the C. K. of O. and the St. Joseph’s
Society.
Funeral services will be held in the Ottoville church Friday morning at nine o’clock slow time and burial will
be made in the parish cemetery.

Died Friday In Hospital
Young Ottoville Native Buried Tuesday
Funeral services for Eugene J. Wannemacher, native of Ottoville, were held in St. John’s Catholic Church,
Delphos, Tuesday morning and burial was made in the parish cemetery at Ottoville. Mr. Wannemacher passed
away Friday afternoon at two o’clock in St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima.
The young man underwent an operation for appendicitis on May 11th and was on the way to recovery
until Saturday when his condition became serious. His death was due to peritonitis.
He was born at Ottoville on February 17, 1908, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Wannemacher. He was
thirty-five years of age. In recent years he made his home in Delphos.
Ten years ago he started an intensive study of airplanes and their mechanics and became an
outstanding pilot and mechanic. At the time of his sickness he was serving the government as an instructor
and chief mechanic at the Lima Municipal Airport.
He was married to Miss Valeta Clement at Delphos on December 28, 1942. the widow survives with the
parents, at Ottoville; four brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Al Kuntz, of Detroit; Pvt. Laverne Wannemacher, Ft.
Monore, Va.; Hubert Wannemacher, Ottoville; Harold Wannemacher, Detroit; Miss Lucille Wannemacher, Lima;
Orville Wannemacher, Ottoville.

Henry Rekart
Aged Man Is Death Victim
Henry Rekart Rites In Ottoville Church
Henry Rekart, who had been making his home with the Max Winkelman family in Ottoville for the last fifty
years, died at the Winkelman residence Saturday morning at ten-fifteen o’clock. He was bedfast for two days
and his death was attributed to complications.
Mr. Rekart was born at Ottoville on June 30, 1957, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rekart. He would have
been eighty-six years of age on June 30th. He resided on a farm east of Ottoville prior to making his home with
the Winkelman family. He was never married.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Only nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception church at Ottoville Tuesday morning at nine o’
clock and interment was made in the parish cemetery.

Frank Schimmoeller
Frank T. Schimmoeller, 78, died Monday at his home here after a long illness. He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Schimmoeller was born in Ft. Jennings and lived in Putnam County his entire life. He was the son of
the late Henry and Bernadine Schimmoeller. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church and also
was affiliated with the Catholic Knights of Ohio.
Besides his wife he leaves the following children; Mrs. Leo Bendele, Leon Schimmoeller, Delphos; Mrs.
Frank Miller, McComb; Henry Schimmoeller, Ottawa; Mrs. Alberta Fast, Lima; Mrs. E. Gladen, Marion, Ind.;
stepson, Gilbert Bendele, Ottoville; brothers, Albert, William and George, of Ft. Jennings; sister, Mrs. Minnie
Heidecker, Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Immaculate Conception church, burial will be in the
church cemetery
The body is at the residence.

Henry Ricker Died Sunday
Rites Held Wednesday In Ottoville Church
Henry Ricker passed away at his home, one and one-half miles west of Ottoville, Sunday evening at ten-
fifteen o’clock after an illness of a year. He was seriously ill for only one day preceding death.
Mr. Ricker was born on October 1, 1857, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Ricker. At the time of his death
he was eighty-five years, eight months and three days of age.
He is survived by the following children, Joseph, Herman, Mrs. Theresia Kemper and Mrs. Veronica
Burgei, all of Ottoville; Mrs. Elizabeth Myers, of Bellevue’ and Mrs. Mary Gasser, Ft. Jennings; sixty-five
grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive. His wife, two sons and a daughter preceded him
in death.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception
church at Ottoville. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

J. R. Friemoth Died Monday
Retried Farmer Buried At Ottoville
John R. Friemoth, resident of the Ottoville community practically all his life, died in the Van Wert Hospital,
Monday morning at eleven-fifteen o’clock after a serious illness of ten days. For the past two years he had
made his home with a son, Theodore, who resides on the Friemoth homestead northwest of Ottoville.
Mr. Friemoth was born in Washington Twonship, Van Wert County, on August 6, 1859, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. John C. Friemoth. He was almost eighty-four years of age at the time of his demise.
In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Kortokrax at Ottoville. The couple made their home on
the farm northwest of Ottoville until thrty-two years ago when they moved to Ottoville where they made their
home for thirty years.
He is survived by his widow; five sons; Theodore, who resides on the home place; Frank, of East Troy,
Wis.; Otto, of Toledo; Amedius, who is with the U.S. Army stationed at Arizona; and Rev. William Friemoth of St.
Paul’s parish, Norwalk; a daughter, Mrs. Alma Binder, of Toledo; thirty-seven grandchildren; and ten great-
grandchildren. Five children, two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Tuesday morning
at nine o’clock and interment was made in the parish cemetery.

Operated Lauer Quarry For Many Years
Nicholas J. Lauer, prominent and esteemed Ottoville citizen and retired stone quarry proprietor of that
community, passed away at ten o’clock Thursday evening of last week at his home after an illness of several
years. He had been bedfast, suffering from complications, for three months prior to his demise.
Mr. Lauer was born in Wolminster, Alsace-Lorain, on July 18, 1860, the son of Alex and Elizabeth Lauer.
He came to this country with his parents at the age of nine years and settled at Ottoville where he spent the
remainder of his life. Sunday he would have been eighty-three years of age.
He was married to Miss Anna Bohnholzer at Ottoville fifty-five years ago. He operated the Lauer Stone
Quarry at Ottoville until his retirement several years ago.
Mr. Lauer was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, the St. Joseph’s
Society, and the Ottoville bronch of the Catholic Knights of Ohio.
He is survived by his widow; four daughters, Miss Lue Lauer, Toledo; Mrs. J. L. Wannemacher, Ottoville;
Mrs. Leo Hoffman, Monroe, Mich.; and Miss Zelma Lauer, of Cleveland; two sons, Joseph Lauer, of Akron; and
Arthur Lauer, of Cleveland; two brothers, Alex Lauer, Detroit; and Charles Lauer, Seattle, Wash.; and eleven
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o’clock in the Ottoville parish church and burial was
made in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Van Oss Died Monday
Rites Held Thursday In Ottoville Church
Last rites were held Monday morning at nine o’clock in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at
Ottoville for Mr. Joseph H. Van Oss, who passed away early Monday morning in a Toledo Hospital. Her death
was due to tuberculosis.
Mrs. Van Oss was born at Ottoville on August 11, 1889, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Vincke.
She was fifty-four years of age. In 1908 she was married to Mr. Van Oss at Ottoville.
She is survived by her husband and eight children; Mrs. Clara French, Ottoville; Mrs. Vernon Leist, of
Lima; Mrs. M. L. Benson, of Marion; Lt. Virgil Van Oss, of Camp Robinson, Ark.; Pvt. Edmund G. Van Oss, of
Ft. Belvoir, Va.; John J. and Miss Dorothy, at home. She also leaves six brothers and sisters, George Vincke,
Ottoville; William Vincke, Toledo; Ferdinand and Joseph Vincke, of Lima; Mrs. Anna Giesken, of Chicago; and
Sister Mary Gertrude of St. Anne Hospital, Chicago; and nine grandchildren. Two children preceded her in
death.
Rev. Henry Gerwert, pastor, officiated at the last rites, and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Studer Rites Held
Ottoville Resident Died In Michigan
Last rites for Mrs. Caroline Studer, former resident of Ottoville, were held in the Immaculate Conception
church in that village Tuesday morning. Mrs. Studer passed away at Jackson, Michigan, Friday afternoon at
three o’clock. She had been making her home with her son, William Studer, at Jackson.
When her death occurred she was eighty-eight years, nine months, and thirteen days of age. She is
survived by three sons, Jacob B. Studer, of Ottoville; William, of Jackson; and Lewis, of St. Maries, Idaho;
twenty-four grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in
death. A sister, Mrs. Mary Studer, of Ottawa, also survives.
Mrs. Studer was born north of Ottawa on January 11, 1855, and following her marriage to Wendel Studer,
made her home in the Ottoville community. She was the oldest member of the Ottoville Catholic parish. Her
husband died twenty-three years ago. Seven grandsons and two great-grandsons of the aged lady are
serving in the armed forces.

Andrew W. Wurst Rites Held Monday
Andrew W. Wurst, esteemed and lifelong resident of the Ottoville community, died at his home in that
village, Friday morning shortly after twelve o’clock. He had been bedfast eight weeks suffering from
complications and had been ailing almost two years.
Mr. Wurst was born near Ottoville on November 20, 1864, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wurst. He was
seventy-eight years of age and spent his entire life in that community, where he engaged in farming until
several years ago when he retired.
In 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Eberle. He is survived by his widow; two sons, Andrew, of
near Delphos; and Isadore, of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. William Miller, Wauseon; a brother, Charles, of Lima; and
six grandchildren. A daughter died in infancy.
Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Monday morning at
nine o’clock. The remains were laid to rest in the parish cemetery.

Former Resident Passed Away At Celina
Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, former resident of Ottoville, and mother of Dr. J. F. Ockuley, former Ottoville
physician, died at her home in Celina, Sunday noon. She was almost ninety-two years of age.
She was married to Frank Ockuley, who preceded her in death in 1883. Forty-five years ago she was
united in marriage to Edward Miller, who survives. She also leaves three sons, Dr. Ockuley, of Delphos;
George Ockuley, of Marysville; and Peter Ockuley, at home; six grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a sister.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Celina,
and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic Church at Ottoville

John D. McWiley Killed In Action

Mther Received Word Saturday Evening
Another fatal war casualty was credited to Putnam County, Saturday, when the War Department informed
Mrs. Amos Peters, of Ottoville, that her son, James David McWiley, twenty-one, had been killed in action. The
young man was a member of the United States Navy with the rating of Machinist Mate, first class. He was well
known in the Ottoville community and had scores of acquaintances throughout the county.
The message stated that James was buried at sea and that when further details were available they
would be forwarded to the mother. It is presumed that the young man was killed in action during the invasion of
Italy.
James was born in Lima on July 10, 1922, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. McWiley. His father died on
July 17, 1926. He moved with his mother to the Ottoville community and attended the grade and high school in
that village. Prior to enlisting in the Navy he was employed with the St. Mary’s Packing company, at Delphos.
He joined the Navy in September 1940, and made his last visit home in April of this year when he had a
seven day leave.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Peters, of Ottoville; two sisters, Mrs. Ray
Bassit, Lima; and Miss Thelma McWiley of Delphos; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James McWiley, of
Delphos; and three step-brothers, Marvin and Arnold Peters of Ottoville; and Louis Peters, of Williston, O.
The young man was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Ft. Jennings where memorial
services will be held Sunday afternoon at two-thirty. Rev. Charles Spithaler, the pastor, will officiate. The
church services will be followed by appropriate rites in Walnut Grove Cemetery, east of Delphos. Members of
the Putnam County American Legion posts will attend the services.

Passed Away Friday Night
Mrs. Brokamp Rites Held At Ottoville
Mrs. Elizabeth Brokamp, Ottoville resident, died in the County Home, east of Ottawa, Friday evening of
senility. She was removed from St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima two weeks ago to the County Home.
Mrs. Brokmap was born in Glandorf on July 17, 1864, and was seventy-nine years of age. Prior to her
marriage to Frank Brokamp she was Elizabeth Schetzinger. Her husband died in 1937.
She is survived by two sons, John and Edward, of the County Home; a brother, John Schetzinger, Kalida;
and a half-sister, Mrs. Philomina Rose, Ft. Jennings.
Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Tuesday morning
and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Frank Eickholt Is Dead At Ottoville

Township Trustee, County Fair Board Member
Frank Eickholt, prominent, lifelong and esteemed resident of the Ottoville community, passed away at St.
Rita’s Hospital, Lima, Monday evening at eight-twenty, after a serious illness of two weeks. Mr. Eickholt has
been ailing for some time and submitted to a major operation at the Lima Hospital on October 26th. He showed
steady improvement until Thursday evening of last week when he suffered a relapse and passed away at the
time mentioned above.
Mr. Eickholt was born in Monterey Township, three miles southwest of Ottoville, on August 17, 1869, the
son of Joseph and Elizabeth Eickholt. At the time of his death he was seventy-four years, two months and
twenty-three days of age.
On April 18, 1894, he was united in marriage to Catherine Shirack at Ottoville. He was engaged in farming
until 1922, when he retired and moved with Mrs. Eickholt to Ottoville. The later passed away on July 8, 1936.
Mr. Eickholt was a good farmer, a public spirited citizen, interested in the betterment of his community. He
served as trustee of his township for twenty years; was president of the Farmers’ Mutual Aid Association for
approximately twenty years and retired from that position in February of this year because of failing health,
and was a member of the Putnam County Fair Board, representing Monterey Township, for ten years.
He is survived by two sons, Leo and Gilbert, of near Ottoville; three daughters, Mrs. Ferd Wannemacher,
Miss Armella Eickholt, Celina; and Mrs. John Fenbert, of Leipsic; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Marquard, who has
made her home with Mr. Eickholt for the last eight years; and Mrs. John Kiefer, of Chesaning, Mich.; sixteen
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Three sisters and a twin brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville, of which he was a
faithful member, Friday morning at nine o’clock. Burial will be made in the parish cemetery.

Burial Made At Ottoville
M. Wannemacher Died At Columbus
Funeral services were conducted Friday morning in the Immaculate Conception church at Ottoville for
Martin J. Wannemacher, who died in St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, as the results of complications, which
followed an attack of pneumonia. He was fifty-four years of age.
He was born at Ottoville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Wannemacher. He was married at Ottoville in
1920 to Elizabeth Utrup. He practiced law in Delphos until four years ago, and since that time had resided in
Dayton and Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Francis and John, with the U. S. Navy at Pearl Harbor; Charles and
Louis at home; six brothers and sisters, Urban, of Ottoville; Sister Mary Antinnette, C.PP.S., Cincinnati; Arnold,
Delphos; Mrs. George Auer, Cleveland; Mrs. C. J. Ells, Chicago; and Mrs. Margie King, Ft. Wayne.
The remains were laid to rest in the Ottoville parish cemetery.

Death Takes Aged Woman
Mrs. Caroline Friemoth Buried Friday
Mrs. Caroline Friemoth, widow of the late John R. Friemoth and former resident of the Ottoville
community, passed away Wednesday of last week in a convalescent home in Toledo, where she was a patient
for the past several years.
Mrs. Friemoth was born near Ottoville on February 10, 1862, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ
Kortokrax. She was married to Mr. Friemoth sixty years ago and he precede her in death on July 12, 1942.
Mrs. Friemoth was eighty-one years old.
She is survived by five sons and a daughter, Theodore, of Ottoville; Frank, East Troy, Wis.; Otto and Mrs.
Ed Binder, Toledo; Captain Amedius Friemoth, in Arizona; and Rev. William Friemoth, Norwalk; three sisters,
Mrs. Agnes Honingford, Delphos; Mrs. Alex Heinl, Ft. Jennings; Mrs. H. J. Benning, Ft. Wayne; and a brother,
Max Kortokrax, Hicksville. Five children, two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ottoville Friday morning.
Rev. Friemoth officiated at the services for his mother. Rev. Adrian Brandehoff was Deacon, and Rev. Louis
Hoffman, sub-deacon. A number of visiting clergy were present for the services. Burial was made in the parish
cemetert at Ottoville.

Services For August J. Becker Held Monday
Was Prominent Farmer Of Jackson Township
Paralysis Victim
Burial Made In Cemetery At Ottoville
August J. Becker, esteemed and well known farmer of Jackson Township, died at his home four miles west
of Ottoville, Wednesday evening of last week after a long illness. He suffered a stroke of paralysis several
years ago and has been confined to his home since that time.
MR. Becker was born near Ottoville on July 8, 1884, the son of Joseph and Theresa Becker and at the
time of his death was fifty-nine years, five months and twenty-one days of age.
He was united in marriage to Miss Bernadine Grote at Ottoville thirty-six years ago. Following their
marriage the couple went into housekeeping on the farm where the family resides at the present time. Mr.
Becker served as a Democrat Committeeman from his precinct for a number of years and was a member of
that committee at the time of his death.
He was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception parish at Ottoville and was affiliated with the
Delphos Council, Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. John Obringer, of Monreville, Ohio; Mrs. Wilbert Miller,
Ottoville; and Mrs, Richard Koester, at home; a sister, Mrs. Henry Horstman, Ft. Jennings; and a brother, John
Becker, of Canton; and two grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Albert Schimmoeller, died in March 1943.
Mr. Becker was a prominent resident of his township and community and took an active part in the
community programs. He was respected and willing as a neighbor, a good husband and father, a friend to all.
Funeral services were held in the Ottoville Catholic Church Monday morning and burial was made in the
parish cemetery.
