Pulmonary Trouble Cuts Him Down In His Prime
Passed Over The Silent River at 7 O’clock This Morning After An Illness Of Two Weeks
The death angel saddened another Delphos home this morning. The merciless reaper of all life entered
the home of Joseph Flick and claimed for its own a husband and father.
Pulmonary trouble caused Mr. Flick an illness extending back two years, and for the past nine weeks he
was bedfast and many times death’s hand was on his brow, but his wonderfully tenacious vitality shook off the
clammy touch and he rallied, only to again soon relapse into a state where life made but a feeble resistance
against its unconquerable adversary—death.
Although every care was given by kind hands and everything that medical science could devise was employed,
it was all to no avail. At 7 o'clock this morning death conquered and the soul of Joseph Flick returned to its
maker.
Deceased was born in Ottoville, October 10, 1873, and was the eldest son of Andrew and Mary Flick, the
former preceding him to the grave. He died on April 25, 1899, at the age of 25 years, 6 months and 14 days.
In 1890 he came to Delphos with his parents and made this city his home up to the time of his death. On
August 7, 1895, he was united in marriage to Miss Rosa Summers, who survives him, with a little daughter, two
years old, whose tender age prevents her from realizing the great loss she has sustained in the death of her
father. The deceased also leaves a mother and a brother and sister.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of everyone in their affliction and irreparable loss. Joe was a
quiet, undemonstrative young man, but the heart that beat within his breast was a true one and he was happy
in the knowledge of a legion of friends who will feel his loss keenly.
The funeral will be held at 8 o'clock, Thursday morning, at St. John's church; interment in the East Side
cemetery.
